Winter at the Castle might be cold, but looks spectacular.  If you are in the area over the festive season, make sure to bring plenty of layers and a good pair of walking shoes.  And waterproofs!

Personally, I love a crisp, frosty morning at the Castle.  The birds, especially the robins, are a favourite of mine.  You can also, if you’re really lucky, spot seals on the beaches surrounding the Castle.  They rest up here after a long day in the choppy North Sea, before continuing their journey.  Dolphins can also be spotted playing in the Bay, and the Castle itself takes on a special atmosphere.

Our most elusive wildlife resident, the Stoat, also changes colour to a magnificent white in the winter.  Read on to find out about some of the local Christmas events.

If you want to sample the local produce, Stonehaven Farmer’s Market is held in the Square on the first Saturday of every month, from 9am-1pm.

Or, if you’re feeling festive, Stonehaven’s Christmas Party Night is held on the 16th December at Stonehaven Town Hall.

Further north in Aberdeen, it sports a spectacular Christmas tree, which is a gift from Aberdeen’s twin town of Stavanger, Norway.

Also in Aberdeen, Union Street’s Christmas Lights are sure to get you into the festive spirit!

Aberdeen has a Christmas Village located in the new civic space on Broad Street, next to the beautiful Marischal College. You will find an open air ice rink, fairground rides including a traditional carousel and the famous Blizzard ride.  Food and drink are also available and visitors are encouraged to venture inside Marischal College Quad where they will find the area transformed into a winter wonderland market.

Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing this Christmas, we hope you have a merry one!
