Declaration of Arbroath Re-enactment

The afternoon of September 26 sees the arrival of King Robert Bruce and his colourful medieval court at Dunnottar Castle by Stonehaven, courtesy of Arbroath Abbey Timethemes on the latest leg of their summer Homecoming tour.

Visitors will see King Robert Bruce presiding over his assembeld noblemen and noblewomen in an interpretation of the events of April 1320 when the famous Declaration of Arbroath was created.  Each noble will be called forward to sign and seal the Declaration of Arbroath before its dispatch to the Pope in Avignon.  The author of the Declaration, Abbot Bernard, Chancellor of Scotland will also be on hand along with the bishops and their associated monks to officiate.

Arbroath Abbey Timethemes Chairman, Dr Richard Irvine explains, "This is an important part of Scottish history and one which still has relevance today, so we are staging a couple of short medieval re-enactments to celebrate this fact."

Members will be in costume from around 1.45pm and happy to answer any questions or simply pose for photographs.

The re-inactments are expected to start at 2pm and 4pm.
